CERAJET
Cerajet has been utilized in the 500/700/N700 series (Nozomi) on the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen,
in the JR Kyushu Shinkansen, and in the Taiwan Shinkansen.
What is Cerajet?
Cerajet consists of the injection tank in which the mixture of adhesion improving material and compressed air is produced, the injection tube and nozzle. It is the device that can improve the adhesion states by injecting a small quantity of the ceramic particles accurately and efficiency at high speed between the wheel and rail.
Application of shot blasting technology
- Cerajet for high speed vehicles
1. Slip prevention
Prevents wheel slippage due to rain, snow, leaves and insects, all of which are typical in slopped terrains.
2. Slip prevention
Prevents slinding and shortens the braking distance for vehicles which do not have a slide-detecting device installed
3. Tread wear prevention
Prevents the wheel tread from wearing down flat as a result of skidding. Skidding occurs when the wheel continues to move forward even though rotation is stopped by braking.
4. Consistent braking distance
Safety during emergencies is further improved by achieving the same braking distance
regardless of weather conditions.

What kind of trains is Cerajet installed in?
Cerajet has been utilized in the 500/700/N700 series (Nozomi) on the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen,
in the JR Kyushu Shinkansen, in the Taiwan Shinkansen, in the JR native line, in private railways,
and in locomotives of freight trains.
With Cerajet installed, the STAR21 recorded a maximum speed of 425 km/h during high-speed trial operation at 0:01 on December 21, 1994.STAR21 = Superior Train for Advanced Railway toward the 21st century
